Board Nominations Open

Please send Danna Smith, danna@dogwoodalliance.com, your nominations to fill two new Board Member positions.  Yes, you may nominate yourself.  Our criteria are shaped by the need for a treasurer, fundraiser, community organizer-leader--and our desire for cultural diversity. Ask the potential nominee how they see themselves as a fit to our mission, why they want to be on the board, how they match our criteria/needs, and to tell us about their educational, professional, and volunteer experience.  Nominations close Oct. 3rd.

Parent-Teacher Conferences

September 22-26, each family will have the opportunity to meet with Becky.  Please sign up as you pick up your child from school.   

Parent Lending Library

One look at our Resource webpage will tell you the people involved in Mountain Sun are a conscientious, informed bunch.  Between us, we have a wealth of knowledge, experience, and wisdom--and books!!!  If you would like to participate in a MSCS Parent Library, please contact Tina Leonard, pixietina@citcom.net.

Online Community Forum 

Our Mountain Sun School Yahoo Group is up and operational.  Parents, staff, and board members are all joining! Send an email to the list to introduce yourself, your family, hobbies, interests. This is a great way to get to know one another, build community, share recipes and parenting tips, post photos, or invite to birthday parties.  Request to join by emailing Tara for more info jubaltara@yahoo.com or by visiting: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/mtnsunschool.

It was perfect weather for a picnic, and turn-out was great!  Only a few families missed out on this fantastic day of blackberry and blueberry picking.  Some folks lingered and went hiking up Sam's Knob--well worth it for the views.  Look for photos from this event spread throughout the website, and write to me for additional pictures at jubaltara@yahoo.com.

OPEN CLASSROOM

Drop-In Days

During the week before school starts, we invite parents and children to visit Becky and Shana at the school as our teachers set up the classrooms.  This is another important step for children to spend time with the teachers, see their parents and teachers in the same room together, and build a bond of trust, especially important for those prone to separation anxiety.  You can drop off paperwork and find out the latest news, too. 

If you are considering Mountain Sun for your child, please stop by to visit or call 577-2328 to schedule a meeting.

News in Brief

We'll have a raffle at our Halloween Fest booth.

Raffle donations will be coordinated through the Fundraising Committee (Tara, 885-6075). 

Mtn Sun will have a float in the Brevard Christmas Parade!

Be thinking of ways to decorate a big truck with a theme of the turn of solstice season in the natural world.    

We were visited by the Dept. of Non-Public Education and now proudly display our certification.

MSCS MSCS has hired Julie Williams, former Chair of the Board, as its first part-time Director.  

Go Julie!  The day-to-day workings of the school would not be possible without her.

We got our Bldg. Permit!

Only a few updates were needed.  Thank you to our volunteer workers who've been helping revamp the classrooms and paint the hallways!

Bldg. Use Agreement Signed!!!

We've worked out the details of our Building Use Agreement with St. Timothy's and are scheduling painting and other necessary updates!  Hooray!

Independance Day Fest

Our July 4th booth was a hit despite the rain!  We made tissue paper trees and bean bag buddies and sold watermelon slices and peach tea. 

White Squirrel Festival

We had a great booth May 24-25 to celebrate that unique Brevard resident, the white squirrel.  It was super-windy, and we got blown over a few times, but turn-out was good.  We sold herb tea and jewelry and made clothespin butterflies and glue-collages.
